I sighed a little as I scrubbed at the floor. I was worried about Tetra, but the only thing I could do but make sure her ship was clean and serviceable when she got back.

I paused in my scrubbing. I hadn't been around when the captain had briefed them. And I too was curious as to why they were gone.

((hmm, i require A.J.))

"Simbyc, from what I gathered from Tetra's mumblings as she planned, the captain didn't think he'd see her again. She mentioned several different places and something about damage to her ship." I said in a whisper, I too wanted to her if the Captain would fill in the gaps though.

I looked at the group in front of me. These kids were my crew. They were really all I had. When bad becomes worse, I'd have to depend on them. And I knew bad was going to become worse. The empire would find us. I couldn't keep an ancient without them knowing. And yet, I couldn't tell any of my crew about this. I couldn't tell anyone about it, and it was driving me insane. I couldn't tell my crew were I had sent Tetra. To be honest, her, Gauntlet, and Gimli would probably be the only crew members still alive next week. And they would probably die too. I knew we couldn't keep outrunning the empire. But yet, we couldn't attack them. We'd be dead.

I looked at the group in front of me. In a lot of ways, they were strong. We'd been through a lot, countless raids, lots of close calls with the empire. But they were so young. I had to protect them. It's not only that they were my crew...but they were the future. There was never going to be a rebellion in my lifetime. But there could be in theirs.

"It's a very long story," I said. "But if you'd like, I can start it. It'll take multiple installments, of course, since it starts when I was only 12 years old."

"Alright, go ahead. We are all dying to know."

"Well, when I was 12 years old, I was in training to become a knight, in the kingdom of Golwyn, which is now the south east part of the empire. Training started when a child was 10, continued until they were 16, and then they were knighted...provided they survived.

My best friend at the time was a boy named Henry. He would one day grow up to rule an island. But onto that later. Right now, he was an awkward lanky kid, with a voice that cracked every sentence. He was certainly funny to look at. He had grown his black hair long, so he kept it in a ponytail. Haha, he looks hilarious.

We were on our first raid. As future knights, we needed to protect the villages in the land. So, we raided barbarian encampments. The first raid that a cadet went on was a big deal. Henry and I could barely sleep the night before. The raid itself was rather uneventful. So I'll skip to the end. Henry was on a group that scouted ahead. He stole two things from the barbarians' treasure. One was a knife, the blade being of a strange black metal. The other was an emerald medallion, also containing some of the metal. He gave the knife to me, and kept the medallion.



And that's the end of the first part of our story."

"Bad place to stop. please continue."

"Naw...haha, I like the suspense."

"Seriously" I wasn't very happy.

"If you can beat me in a duel, I'll tell you the next part of the story. You can choose the weapon."

"Um ok. Cutlasses." I stated drawing.

"I hope you know that's a terrible decision." I said. "I was hoping for like a knife, or a bow. Something interesting."

"I see"

I a few moments, I unarmed him and placed my cutlass in front of his neck.
"Because I'm too good at this." I said.

I rolled my eyes and stepped well back so I would be out of the way. Boys. Soon the captain had disarmed (Fearix). I waited to see where they would go with this.
